0800 and local numbers that send calls to the right place
Your phone number is often the first thing a customer uses to reach you, and it should outlive any phone system or provider. We set up new 0800 and local numbers, move existing ones across safely and route them so calls reach the right person at the right time of day.

0800 & local business numbers for small and medium businesses
A business number tends to end up printed on vans, websites, invoices and signs, so losing it or having it ring out is expensive. Yet numbers are often scattered across old accounts, set up by someone who has since left, with diverts nobody remembers creating. We start by collecting every number you own, where it is held, what it does today and what it should do, and put that in one list you keep.
Moving a number from one provider to another is called porting, and it usually goes smoothly when the paperwork matches exactly. The account holder name, account number and service address all have to agree with the losing provider's records, or the port is rejected and the date slips. We gather those details first, book the port for a quiet time of day, and test the number from outside straight after the move so any problem is caught early.
Routing is where a number starts working for you. A local number can ring reception during the day, a duty mobile after hours and a message on public holidays. An 0800 number can show callers a local presence nationwide while still landing in one office. Regional numbers can point a Hamilton caller to your Hamilton staff. We set the rules, write them down and change them whenever your hours, staff or locations change.
What's included
Number audit
A single list of every business number you own, which account it sits on, where it currently rings and when it was last changed.
New 0800 and local numbers
Freephone and local numbers ordered for new offices, campaigns or departments, with options for memorable numbers where they are available.
Porting
Numbers moved from your current provider with the account details checked beforehand, so ports are not rejected and dates do not slip.
Time-of-day routing
Different destinations for business hours, lunch breaks, evenings, weekends and public holidays, set to the hours your office actually keeps.
Diverts and overflow
Calls sent to a mobile, another office or a voicemail when nobody answers within a set number of rings, so customers are not left listening to ringing.
Messages and greetings
Clear greetings and closed messages recorded or written with you, including where to send customers for urgent matters.
Call reporting
Basic reports on how many calls each number receives and how many go unanswered, so you can see whether advertising numbers are working.
Ongoing changes
Changes to hours, diverts and greetings made on request, with the number list kept up to date each time.

Can we take our number with us if we change provider?
In most cases, yes. New Zealand has number portability, so local, mobile and 0800 numbers can usually move between providers. The request has to match the current account details exactly, which is why we check them before the port is lodged.
How long does porting take?
It depends on the type of number and the providers involved. Simple ports often happen within days, while complex ones with many numbers take longer. We give you a confirmed date once the port is accepted rather than an estimate.
What is the difference between an 0800 number and a local number?
An 0800 number is free for the caller and the business pays for the call. A local number costs callers the normal rate but shows a regional presence. Many businesses use both, pointing to the same place.
Can calls go to different places depending on the time?
Yes. Routing can change by time of day, day of the week and public holiday, so a call can ring reception in the morning, a duty mobile in the evening and a message on Christmas Day.
Will our number stop working during a port?
There can be a brief gap while the number moves between networks. We schedule ports for quiet times and test the number from an outside line straight afterwards.
Can we have a number that is easy to remember?
Sometimes. Memorable numbers depend on what is available when you order. We check options and tell you what can be had before anything is committed.
How are numbers billed?
Number rental and call charges are monthly costs from the carrier, which we set out in writing before anything is ordered. Setup and porting work is quoted in writing first.
