IT support for aquaculture and seafood businesses

Seafood businesses work at the edge of the network: on the water, at remote coastal sites and in cold processing rooms. We help keep data flowing from those places to the office, and protect it once it gets there.

IT for aquaculture & seafood

Aquaculture farms and seafood companies operate in some of the hardest places to run technology. Marine farms sit in sheltered bays far from fibre, vessels move in and out of mobile coverage, and processing sheds are cold, wet and busy. Yet the business still depends on data: harvest and stock records, water quality readings, catch reporting, processing batches, cold chain temperatures and export certification. Getting that information from the water and the factory floor to the office reliably is half the IT challenge for these businesses.

The other half is protecting what arrives. Seafood exporters handle large international payments and deal with overseas buyers by email, which makes them a clear target for invoice fraud. Food safety and export records must be kept accurately for regulators and customers, often for years. Processing staff work shifts and seasons, devices on the floor face constant moisture and cold, and office systems may sit in a coastal town where support has always been hard to come by at short notice.

Office IT supports aquaculture and seafood businesses with three to seventy-five staff. Our technicians are onsite in Auckland and Hamilton; for coastal operations in the Coromandel, Marlborough, Nelson, Bay of Plenty or elsewhere we provide remote support and plan visits for installation projects by arrangement. We focus on getting dependable connections to remote sites, keeping processing and cold chain data safe, choosing devices that survive wet areas, and protecting the email and payment channels that exporters rely on every day.

Common IT problems in this industry

Remote and coastal sites

Marine farms, wharves and coastal sheds are often beyond fibre and fringe mobile coverage, so data and calls drop at the worst moment.

Data from the water

Water quality sensors, harvest records and catch information must reach the office reliably, even when crews are offshore for long stretches.

Wet and cold processing areas

Salt, water and low temperatures quickly destroy ordinary devices, and gloved staff need screens that still respond.

Cold chain evidence

Temperature records from chillers, freezers and transport must be complete and kept, because export customers and regulators can ask for them.

Export payment fraud

International buyers and agents communicate by email, and fake requests to change bank details can divert large sums.

Records spread across systems

Harvest, processing, quality and export data often sit in separate spreadsheets and apps, making traceability slow when it matters.

What we set up for you

Connectivity for remote sites

We combine satellite, fixed wireless, 4G or point-to-point links to bring a dependable connection to sheds and wharves, with failover where it matters.

Sync that tolerates gaps

Field and vessel devices use apps and settings that store records offline and sync automatically once a connection is available again.

Rated devices for processing

Tablets, scanners and keyboards with suitable water and dust protection are chosen for wet areas and managed centrally from our help desk.

Protected cold chain records

Temperature monitoring systems sit on a secure network segment, and their data and reports are backed up so records are complete for audits.

Export email defences

Filtering for lookalike domains, external sender warnings and multi-factor sign-in reduce the risk of a fake buyer or agent message being acted on.

One place for traceability records

We organise processing and export documents in SharePoint or your chosen system, so a batch can be traced from harvest to shipment quickly.

Systems we support

We work with the software and equipment your business already relies on, and with your software vendors when something needs their help.

  • Processing, traceability and batch management software
  • Electronic catch and position reporting systems
  • Water quality and environmental monitoring platforms
  • Cold store and temperature monitoring systems
  • Starlink and marine or rural connectivity
  • Xero and MYOB with multi-currency
  • Microsoft 365, Teams and SharePoint

IT for aquaculture & seafood: questions

Can you get internet to our marine farm base or wharf shed?

Often, yes. Depending on the site, satellite, fixed wireless or a point-to-point link from a nearby building can work well, sometimes with 4G as a backup. We assess options remotely first, then plan an installation visit by arrangement if you are outside Auckland and Hamilton.

Do you look after electronic catch reporting?

We do not run the reporting itself, which remains your responsibility under the rules that apply to you. We look after the devices, connections and accounts it depends on, and help make sure records sync reliably from the vessel or site.

What devices survive in a processing room?

Look for a high ingress protection rating, screens that work with gloves and cases that tolerate your cleaning routine. We help choose suitable devices for each area and keep spares ready, so a failure on the line is a quick swap.

How do we protect international payments?

Use multi-factor sign-in on email and banking, filter lookalike domains, and confirm any change of bank details by calling a known contact before paying. We set up the technical defences and can train staff to spot the warning signs.

Our office is in a coastal town far from Auckland. Will support be slow?

Most support is done remotely, so where you are makes little difference day to day. Our help desk works in business hours. Visits for installations or larger projects outside Auckland and Hamilton are planned in advance.

How is support priced?

Office staff are usually on the Managed plan at $119 per user per month plus GST. Shared devices on vessels or processing floors are covered as part of the agreement, and connectivity projects for remote sites are quoted in writing before any work starts.
