IT support for retail and hospitality
If the POS or EFTPOS stops on a Saturday, you stop taking money. We keep the network behind your counters steady, safe and the same at every site.

IT for retail & hospitality
Shops, cafes, bars and restaurants depend on a small number of systems that absolutely have to work: the point of sale, EFTPOS terminals, kitchen printers, online ordering and the internet connection that ties them together. Most of those systems are cloud based, so a dropped connection at the counter can halt sales just as surely as a broken till. Busy periods make it worse, because the network is most loaded at exactly the moment a failure costs the most, whether that is a Friday night service or the weeks before Christmas.
Hospitality and retail also mix very different users on one site. Staff use rostering and POS apps, managers run reports and payroll, customers want free Wi-Fi, and cameras record the floor and back door. When all of those share one consumer-grade router, a guest's device can sit next to the payment terminals and the camera recorder. Owners usually find out about the problem when EFTPOS starts declining at random or the camera footage they need turns out never to have been recorded.
Office IT supports retail and hospitality businesses with one or several sites around Auckland and Hamilton. We build a consistent, secure network for each site, separate payments, staff and guests, add backup internet where trading depends on it, look after back-office computers and Microsoft 365, and keep cameras recording. We work on low-voltage systems only. Everything is documented per site, so when a manager rings about a problem at one venue, the technician already knows how that venue is put together and can usually fix it remotely.
Common IT problems in this industry
Trading stops when the internet does
Cloud POS, EFTPOS and online orders all depend on the connection. A single fibre outage on a busy day costs real sales.
Payment security
Card payments bring obligations under the PCI DSS card security standard. Payment devices should never share a network with guest Wi-Fi.
Guest Wi-Fi
Customers expect Wi-Fi, but an open network shared with business systems invites trouble and can slow the counter to a crawl.
Many sites, many setups
Each new store or venue tends to get its own router, passwords and quirks, making support slow and inconsistent.
Cameras and privacy
Cameras help with theft and disputes, but recordings must be stored securely and used in line with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Privacy Commissioner's guidance.
High staff turnover
Casual and seasonal staff come and go quickly, which leaves old logins in POS, rostering and email systems if nobody removes them.
What we set up for you
Separated site networks
POS and EFTPOS, staff devices, cameras and guest Wi-Fi on separate networks, so customers never share a network with payment equipment.
Backup internet
A 4G or 5G backup connection that takes over automatically when the fibre drops, so cloud POS and EFTPOS keep working.
Managed guest Wi-Fi
Fast, isolated guest Wi-Fi with bandwidth limits so customers don't slow the counter, and a simple terms page if you want one.
A standard setup per site
Each site built to the same documented design, so a new store opens faster and support knows what to expect at every location.
Network cameras
Camera systems cabled and installed, recording on their own network, with secure remote viewing for owners and managers.
Quick starters and leavers
Accounts for casual staff created and removed promptly, with shared tablets locked to the apps they need.

IT supportIT for retail & hospitality: questions
Can you stop our EFTPOS dropping out?
Often, yes. Common causes are weak Wi-Fi, an overloaded router or a guest network sharing bandwidth with payments. We put payment devices on a stable, separate network, cable them where possible and add backup internet so a fibre fault doesn't stop sales.
Do you support our POS system?
We support the network, internet, devices and printers your POS relies on and work with your POS provider's support team when the fault is in their software. Most POS outages turn out to be network or connection problems.
Is free guest Wi-Fi safe to offer?
Yes, when it runs on its own isolated network with bandwidth limits. Guests reach the internet and nothing else, so your payment devices, cameras and back-office computers are out of reach.
Can you set up multiple sites the same way?
Yes. We design one standard setup and roll it out to each site, which makes new openings quicker and support simpler because every location works the same way.
Do you install security cameras?
Yes. We cable, install and configure network cameras and recorders as low-voltage work, and set up secure remote viewing. Any new power outlets need a registered electrician.
How much does support cost for a small shop or cafe?
Back-office users are covered from $69 per user per month plus GST, and pay-as-you-go help is $109 an hour remote or $159 an hour onsite plus GST. Network and POS site support is agreed in writing for each site.
