IT support for wineries and vineyards

A winery is a farm, a factory, a shop and an exporter rolled into one business. We keep the connections and systems across the vineyard, the winery, the cellar door and the office working together.

IT for wineries & vineyards

Few small businesses cover as much ground as a winery. The vineyard team records spraying, canopy work and harvest data. The winemaker tracks every tank, barrel and addition through vintage. The cellar door runs point of sale, a wine club and tastings for visitors. The office handles export documentation, distributor orders, excise duty and the accounts. Each part tends to have its own software, and the connections between them are often a person copying figures from one screen to another late at night during vintage.

Most vineyards and wineries sit well outside fibre areas, so internet speed and reliability are a constant concern, and the same rural connection may serve the office, the winery, a cellar door with card terminals and guest Wi-Fi, and sometimes accommodation. Vintage brings long hours and casual staff. Export markets and distributors expect accurate documents on time, and the wine club database holds customer details and payment information that must be protected as carefully as any online shop would protect theirs.

Office IT supports wineries and vineyards with three to seventy-five staff. Where we can reach you onsite, in the Auckland region including Waiheke and Matakana and around Hamilton, our technicians visit as needed. Wineries in Marlborough, Hawke's Bay, Central Otago, Martinborough and other regions are supported remotely, with planned visits for installation work by arrangement. We focus on dependable rural internet, a secure cellar door, protected customer data and reliable systems that keep running through vintage.

Common IT problems in this industry

Rural internet across several buildings

The office, winery, cellar door and vineyard sheds may be hundreds of metres apart, sharing one slow connection that struggles at peak times.

Cellar door payments

Point of sale and card terminals must work on busy weekends. A dropped connection means lost sales and frustrated visitors.

Wine club customer data

Club members' details and stored payment arrangements make the database an attractive target, and the Privacy Act 2020 applies in full.

Vintage pressure

Harvest brings long days and extra staff. Software or device failures in the winery during vintage hold up decisions that cannot be postponed.

Export and excise paperwork

Export documents, excise returns and distributor orders depend on accurate production records and on email that reaches the right person.

Guest Wi-Fi alongside business systems

Visitors want Wi-Fi at the cellar door, but it must never share a network with the POS, winery PCs or office files.

What we set up for you

Site-wide network links

Point-to-point wireless links or data cabling connect the office, winery and cellar door, so every building shares a fast, managed network.

Rural internet with failover

We pair the best local connection with Starlink or fixed wireless and automatic failover, so the cellar door and office keep trading when one link fails.

Separate guest and payment networks

Guest Wi-Fi, point of sale and office systems each run on their own network behind a business firewall, with guest traffic limited so it never slows sales.

Protected customer records

Wine club and e-commerce accounts use multi-factor sign-in, sensible permissions and backups, so customer data is guarded and recoverable.

Vintage readiness

Before harvest we check winery PCs, tablets, lab equipment connections and backups, and set up any casual staff access with an end date.

Outdoor and cellar Wi-Fi

Weather-rated access points extend coverage to the crush pad, barrel hall or outdoor tasting area where staff and visitors need it.

Systems we support

We work with the software and equipment your business already relies on, and with your software vendors when something needs their help.

  • Winery production and compliance software
  • Vineyard management and spray diary apps
  • Cellar door point of sale and wine club platforms
  • Online wine shops and e-commerce
  • Starlink and rural fixed wireless internet
  • Xero and MYOB
  • Microsoft 365, Outlook and SharePoint

IT for wineries & vineyards: questions

Our cellar door, winery and office are in separate buildings. Can they share one network?

Yes. Depending on distance and line of sight, we use point-to-point wireless links or data cabling between buildings, then manage the whole site as one network with separate segments for guests, payments and the office. Design and hardware are quoted in writing before work starts.

Do you support wineries in Marlborough or Central Otago?

Yes, remotely. Monitoring, help desk support, account changes and security all work from a distance. Onsite visits are standard in Auckland and Hamilton; for other regions we plan visits for installation projects by arrangement, or work with a local cabler to our design.

How do we keep the cellar door trading if the internet drops?

Add a second connection with automatic failover, and make sure your point of sale and card terminals can use it. Some POS systems can also queue sales offline. We set up the failover and check it actually switches when the main line fails.

Is guest Wi-Fi a security risk?

Only if it shares a network with your business systems. We put guests on an isolated network with limited bandwidth, so they can browse but never see your POS, winery computers or office files.

Can you help with our winery software?

We look after the devices, network, accounts and backups it relies on, and contact the software provider on your behalf when the problem is with the software itself. Winery-specific setup and compliance reporting remain with the vendor and your team.

What plan suits a winery?

Office, winemaking and cellar door managers usually sit on the Managed plan at $119 per user per month plus GST. Casual cellar door and vintage staff who only use shared devices are scoped separately and agreed in writing.
